Construction

Building a home should be fun and exciting.

The construction process should be exciting. Few things are as satisfying as watching your home, quite literally, come together. Unfortunately, there are a lot of details to worry about and that can be stressful. That’s why we handle the all the details of the construction process, so you can enjoy the experience.

The Construction Process

Building a home is complex and involves many phases. At Whitten, we handle the construction of your home from start to finish. To help you prepare for and understand your new home’s construction, here’s an outline of the typical steps we take during the construction of your new home.

Phase 1

Planning & Permits

Before we start construction on your project, we ensure your plans are approved by local planning and zoning departments, sign off on all neighborhood requirements, and secure building permits. Once permits are acquired, construction can begin.

Phase 2

Site Work & Foundation

A great home starts with a solid foundation. The first phase of construction includes preparing the site for construction and building the foundation. The foundation defines the perimeter of the house and establishes the overall layout. A strong foundation is key to a strong home.

Phase 3

Framing & Dry In

Framing is one of the most exciting stages of the process. During this stage the walls, roof trusses, and decking are installed. Installing the windows, exterior doors, and shingles are also part of this phase.

The framing phase seems to move really fast and it can give the false impression that the project is nearly finished. Actually there is still a lot left to do.

Phase 4

Plumbing, Electrical, & Air Conditioning

Collectively this is your home’s mechanical systems. The mechanical systems are installed in two phases. The first is called the rough-in. This is all the wiring and pipes that are hidden in your walls. After the drywall is installed, phase two or the trim out phase takes place. The trim out phase is when all the fixtures are installed.

Phase 5

Interior & Exterior Finishes

During the interior & exterior finishes phase, you will start to see the final product take shape. Interior doors, baseboards, crown molding, cabinets, countertops, vanities, flooring, and paint along with many other details come together during this phase. You’ll love seeing the style and character of the house come to life.

On the outside, siding, stone and brick are installed along with exterior trim. Exterior painting is completed and exterior accents are installed.

Phase 6

Puch List & Final Inspection

Once you home is complete we will walk through the home with you and make a punch list of any last items that need to be finished. We work to make sure all the last details are taken care of so you are completely satisfied. Because your new home is a source of pride to both you and to Whitten Homes, we want to be certain that your home meets our level of craftsmanship and standards of quality.
